Landscape design & construction FAQ's

In order to understand your vision and goals for the project, we begin by engaging in a
personalized phone consultation. From there our initial consultation is complimentary, and
provides the opportunity for us to understand your vision and goals for the project. Following
this, we require a design contract and deposit to begin work on the design.

This is important because it is our compass when we are designing. We need to be aware of
how much we have to work with. As you’ll see below, there’s a variety of ways to tackle your
objective.

Example: You want a seating area. We can accomplish this by using gravel, concrete, cedar,
composite decking, natural stone, etc.

There are many ways to go about your project. Without a budget, we are blindly designing a
project that may be out of your budget. Our goal is to create a design that truly fits you and your family’s expectations and budget.

Design fees start at $750 and go up from there. This all depends on what areas of your property you’re wanting to do such as the back, front, side yards, or an entire master plan. Another factor that we consider is the size of your property. We will do up to four iterations on the design to ensure your satisfaction.

If you proceed with the construction of the project with Agave LD, we will credit the amount you paid for the design towards your project.

From our very first encounter during the initial consultation and after you’ve signed the landscape design contract, our typical timeline for completing the design ranges from three to five weeks. The sooner you finalize the landscape contract, the quicker we can kick start the process.

To begin, our measuring technicians will visit the project site, capturing photographs, measurements, and elevations of the designated areas. These precise measurements are then handed over to our drafting team, who input them into our cutting-edge CAD software.

Once the drafting team’s work is complete, your dedicated designer will commence the design and estimate for your project, building upon the insights gathered during the initial consultation.

Subsequently, your designer will coordinate a face-to-face meeting with you to review the design and estimate, ensuring it aligns perfectly with your expectations.

This all truly depends on several factors:

1) City Permits: This can typically take 2-4 weeks to receive approval.

2) HOA: For the most part, allow 3-4 weeks for approval. In some cases, HOA may take 60-90 days for approval. Once we get city and HOA approval, if required for your property, we can schedule you between 2-3 weeks.

3) Weather: Consistent rain will delay us by a couple of days. However, we will keep in constant communication with you on how this may affect your project’s start date or completion.

Our designers are very well versed in the standard HOA regulations and have the ability to check certain parameters when putting together your design. If the HOA does not approve of a certain item submitted in the design, our team takes point on discussing the issue with the HOA and finding a solution that best meets the clients needs and that will be approved. If any changes are completed to comply with any HOA request, the design and estimate will be modified and all final solutions are approved by you first!

This all depends on our current workload, as our main focus is to assist clients that not only want a landscape design but also want to build it with us.

Certainly! To craft a design that perfectly complements your custom home, we will require floor plans, a property survey, and a detailed budget discussion with you.

In most cases, your irrigation system may experience some disruption during pool construction. However, we are here to assist you in restoring your irrigation system to its original condition post-construction. It’s crucial to reach out to us once you’ve finalized your pool design with your pool contractor. We seamlessly collaborate with pool contractors, since they use the same software we use for our landscape designs. All we require is your pool contractor’s contact details, and we can take it from there. The sooner you get in touch with us, the sooner we can begin enhancing your landscape after your pool project is complete.

We can definitely take a look at the entire property to start that conversation, but we cannot price out any design work that is confirmed to be done that far out. Any work that you are further than approximately 4-6 months out from wanting installed is recommended to wait and circle back to us! The designers will focus on the top priority space, create a full design and estimate for that work, and then we may come up with some loose designs for the other areas to give you an idea of what that could look like. It is preferred to not provide an estimate for future work because materials, plants, and other items will likely change. BUT do not worry! We will save your entire property file, and design a model to keep adding to it and check off each area as you are ready to complete them!

When you have decided to rework your existing yard or property, please contact us to start working with one of our designers that will be based on your timeline for installation. The design process from start to finish typically takes 6-8 weeks. With the 6-8 week time period, our team of skilled members complete a full analysis, create a 2D/3D model of your home, and are able to design and price out 2-3 different options for you! After the design is confirmed and the contract is signed, we can usually start construction within the following couple weeks.

Maintenance FAQ's

We typically aim to arrange our services within the same week, though the specific scheduling depends on the location of your property. Rest assured, your satisfaction is our top priority, and we will make every effort to promptly accommodate your scheduling needs.

Our scheduling availability is contingent upon the location of our crews on a given day. If this aligns with your property’s area, we can certainly accommodate you on our schedule.

Our minimum weekly service rate begins at $45, while our biweekly service is priced at $60. Please note that our pricing structure is tailored to the specific size of your property, which means these rates serve as a starting point.

Furthermore, the first service appointment is billed at an hourly rate of $60 per man-hour. This initial visit allows us to thoroughly assess and address any potential cleanup requirements. Following this first appointment, your subsequent services will be charged as per the originally quoted rate.

Currently, we don’t offer monthly service, we only offer weekly and biweekly services throughout the year.

If your plan is a weekly service, this will automatically switch over to a biweekly service. If your plan is a biweekly service, it will stay the same throughout the winter time.

Essentially we will use the budgeted time to do anything that is necessary around your property as far as clean up.

To be transparent, it is impossible to have a weed-free flower bed. This service is only to keep the weeds under control. So you may see a weed pop-up here and there. Although this service doesn’t eliminate weeds completely, rest assured that your flower beds will look maintained and well-kept with this service.

The crew is instructed to pull up larger weeds and spray smaller weeds with a non-selective herbicide.

We will typically use a solution that includes vinegar and water as an alternative to a herbicide. Keep in mind that this method is not guaranteed and more than likely will not work as it’s a gardening myth. What we recommend is to hire us to perform frequent clean ups to pull up the weeds.

In order to speed up the process and be able to help as many potential clients, we have come up with a formula that will help us achieve this. Essentially, we base your pricing on square footage of your property.

If your property is larger than 15,000 sq ft and/or you’re looking for a landscape management contract, a site visit will be scheduled with you.

Our teams usually operate in mild rain conditions. However, in the event of heavy rain, we’ll reschedule our crews for that day, and your service will be performed the following day. If we experience consecutive rainy days, our teams will utilize the weekend to get back on track.

If, for any reason, you need to cancel your service for the week, kindly provide us with a 24-hour notice so that we can adjust our schedule accordingly.

Should there be any adjustments to your scheduled service day, we will proactively communicate these changes to you in advance. Typically, we aim to service your home either a day prior or a day after your usual service day.

If it’s essential for your home to be serviced before a holiday, please reach out to our office at least a week ahead. While we cannot guarantee it, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.

Yes we hold the necessary insurance to protect you and your property from any liability. Our employees are insured with workmans comp, so in the event that they get injured at your property, they are covered by us.

For our maintenance service there is a minimum of 12 services. If you cancel before the 12 services are done at your property, you will incur a fee of $100.

For our fertilization and weed control services there is a minimum of 6 services. If you cancel before the 6 services are done at your property, you will be charged a fee of $100.

If you have both services and have not met the minimum for both services, you will incur a fee of $200.

Foremost, we urge you to promptly inform us of any damage. It’s crucial to contact our main office immediately and, if possible, provide a photo of the damage. Once notified, our main office will liaise with the service manager to evaluate the situation. Please refrain from any attempt to repair the damage yourself before our assessment, as doing so will release us from liability for the damage.

We will then proceed to address the issue using the method, company, or contractor that we deem suitable.

Fertilization and weed control FAQ's

Our primary focus is on using the safest products for our clients. It’s important to note that every pet is different, and they may have different reactions to the products. Rest assured that the products we use are not harsh chemicals. They are chemicals, so it is important to be cautious. We recommend staying off the treated lawn for 45 minutes to 1 hour after application to ensure you and your pet’s safety.

The grubworm application serves a crucial role in safeguarding your lawn against insect-induced damage, particularly from pests like grub worms and armyworms. This application forms a protective barrier, effectively thwarting their ability to harm your lawn. We strongly advise against canceling this application, as it reduces the risk of encountering grub worms and armyworms.

It’s important to note that this application is primarily preventative in nature, aimed at minimizing potential harm to your lawn. However, it’s essential to understand that we cannot guarantee complete absence of these pests, as nature’s forces can sometimes outweigh our preventive measures.

While we can reschedule your service if necessary, we strongly discourage skipping applications. Skipping treatments may result in unsatisfactory results and may lead to the cancellation of your service, as each application is crucial to achieving the desired outcome.

While we use the best products in the industry, there is no guarantee that your lawn will be free of these pests, nor that they will damage your lawn. It’s essential to understand that we cannot guarantee complete absence of these pests, as nature’s forces can sometimes outweigh our preventive measures. Rest assured that we care for thousands of clients that are satisfied with their lawn care.

The timeline for seeing results depends on how well you care for your lawn, taking into account factors such as mowing frequency, weather conditions, and efficient watering. With proper care, you can expect to notice improvements within a few months or even sooner.

No, our program is termed “lawn maintenance” for a reason. It’s important to understand that grass continues to grow and evolve over time. Therefore, ongoing monitoring and care are essential to maintain the health and appearance of your lawn. Consistent care is key to achieving lasting results.

For our fertilization and weed control services there is a minimum of 6 services. If you cancel before the 6 services are done at your property, you will be charged a fee of $100.

We understand that our nine-application program may not be the best fit for everyone. While we do offer alternative options, it’s important to note that the results may not be as comprehensive. The nine-application program is designed to maintain both the health and aesthetics of your lawn.

The presence of weeds can depend on the level of care and adherence to our recommendations by the client. Factors like irregular mowing and insufficient watering can contribute to weed growth. It’s important to mention that our program includes spot spraying treatments for clients who diligently follow our guidelines and still experience weed issues.

During the winter, what we spray are soil enhancements, not traditional treatments. These enhancements serve to protect the roots of your lawn and enrich the soil in preparation for robust growth in the spring. Additionally, we continue to monitor and address weeds that persist, even in the colder months.

Our applications include organic fertilizers that are gentle on your lawn, and they do not require excessive watering. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a minimal amount of water is needed to activate the product. If the city enforces watering restrictions, we recommend adhering to those guidelines while understanding that a modest amount of water will be necessary to maximize the effectiveness of the product.

Enhancements FAQ's

No, you do not! As long as we can access all the places that we will be working in at your property. If you need to leave a gate code or a spare gate key somewhere we can arrange that. Some clients prefer to be home while we are working, but it is rarely required.

While many of our clients find credit cards to be a convenient payment option, it’s important to note that for larger transactions, there may be associated processing fees. In such instances, we are more than willing to accommodate your preferred payment method and can arrange for a check pickup for your convenience.

Our aerators are designed to penetrate the soil to a depth of 2-4 inches, with the actual depth determined by the specific characteristics of your sod and soil. When cables are installed at the recommended depth of 6 inches or deeper, there should be no risk of interference. In areas where there may be uncertainty or higher risk, we consistently engage the services of 811 to ensure a safe and risk-free operation.

Irrigation FAQ's

Several factors could cause this issue, such as a faulty controller, damaged wiring, a malfunctioning valve, or a clogged sprinkler head. It’s best to start by checking the controller settings and then inspecting each component step by step. Contacting Agave LD, a licensed irrigation company, will be your best approach.

This issue could be due to clogged nozzles, damaged sprinkler heads, insufficient water pressure, a valve problem or a leak.

Low water pressure can be caused by a variety of factors, malfunctioning valves, too many sprinkler heads in one zone, and the list goes on. Contact us and we can handle this issue for you.

For systems with 10 zones or fewer, there’s a fixed inspection fee of $197.00. If your system has more than 10 zones, you’ll incur a trip charge that varies between $50.00 and $100.00. This charge includes travel expenses and a basic hourly rate of $125.00 per hour per worker, in addition to the time needed for the inspection.

Repairs costing up to $200 will be done without needing your approval per the estimate. If the repairs exceed $200, we’ll only proceed after you give us the go-ahead. The cost of this service doesn’t include any extra materials or labor required for unexpected repairs found during the inspection.

We offer a 90-day warranty for any repairs we make on your irrigation system. If we install a new system for you, it comes with a 1-year warranty. This warranty includes all the parts we use and our workmanship. However, it’s important to note that this warranty won’t cover new issues that might arise, issues like clogged nozzles, spray or rotor head adjustments, or problems caused by extreme weather conditions like freezing, fire, flooding, and other natural events such as acts of God.

Checking an irrigation system at least four times a year is generally a good practice to ensure that it functions optimally and efficiently. We recommend monthly inspections to help identify and address issues promptly, leading to better water conservation, healthier plants, and a longer lifespan for your irrigation equipment.

An irrigation backflow preventer is a plumbing device installed on the water supply line of an irrigation system. Its primary function is to prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the clean, potable water supply. It does this by allowing water to flow in one direction only, from the potable water supply to the irrigation system, and preventing any backflow or reverse flow.

If you have an irrigation leak, immediately turn off the water supply to your system and contact us for assistance.

Our one-time inspection includes the conditions of the controller, rain/freeze sensor valve, irrigation heads, coverage, as well as programming the controller to the current season. Seasonal programming will consist of setting the controller based on the condition of the property and climate conditions at the time of inspection. We are not liable for ongoing seasonal programming following this service. We will program the controller to city watering restrictions if applicable unless instructed otherwise.

The duration of watering depends on several factors, including the type of plant, the irrigation component used, the quality of soil, and the amount of sunlight your landscape receives. It’s important to tailor your watering schedule to these specific conditions.

Certainly, an inspection is an essential step to initiate any necessary repairs. It is imperative that we thoroughly assess the entire system to accurately pinpoint the problem. During this process, it’s possible that we may identify additional issues that could be impacting the area of your primary concern. This comprehensive inspection is vital for a precise diagnosis and effective resolution.
